Franklin County applies for Home Base Iowa certification

Local officials are hoping state administrators approve Franklin County’s application to participate in a program designed to lure skilled military veterans into Iowa communities.
Franklin County applied for Home Base Iowa Community certification in late March. The program allows local governments and other organizations to develop special incentive packages for veterans to entice them into their counties and cities, in turn bolstering the workforce with high-quality employees. Home Base Iowa was created in 2014 and is designed to help veterans gain immediate employment once they’re discharged from the military.
Franklin County Development Association (FDCA) director Karen Mitchell spearheaded local Home Base Iowa efforts and hoped to hear back from the program’s director by May 1. If approved, Franklin County would become the fourteenth Home Base Iowa Community in the state.
