Franklin County aiming to become a Home Base Iowa Community

Local officials are sounding the battle cry to make Franklin County a more welcoming community for military veterans.

     Franklin County Development Association Director Karen Mitchell has met with local governments and businesses recently to introduce a special new program aimed a drawing veterans to the Hawkeye State. Home Base Iowa, a law passed by the State Legislature and signed by Gov. Terry Branstad this year, gives local governments the authority to create special incentive packages to attract former servicemen and women to their communities.

     The new law is designed to help veterans get on their feet and gain immediate employment once they’re discharged from the military.
