Former Franklin County supervisor, Latimer city council member and mayor Jerry Plagge died Saturday following an extended battle with cancer.
Plagge, 72, served on the Franklin County Board of Supervisors for 12 years. He started his career in local government with the Latimer City Council more than 30 years ago and eventually made his way to the mayor’s chair. He decided to run for supervisor in 2002 and remained in that position until his term expired last December.
“His first love was the community he lived in, and his second love was Franklin County. He was honored to serve both,” said Plagge’s wife, Jeanne. “He was just a good man.”
Plagge also served on many local and regional committees. He was active in the Republican Party, but he was well known for keeping an open mind on divisive issues.
