First Bank Hampton Celebrates 90 years of Serving the Community

First Bank Hampton Celebrated 90 years of doing business in Franklin County with a block party August 4th. Lines stretched around the corner to enter as the public turned out for music by Lincoln Highway, burgers grilled by the Franklin County Cattlemen and Ice Cream provided by Rae’s Lighthouse. 

It was all hands on deck Friday with 28 of the 30 First Bank Hampton employees from the Hampton and Latimer branches, including CEO Dave Heuberger and President Tyler Heeren, greeting guests, handing out water, serving food, giving away cutting boards and cleaning tables as hundreds of the seven hundred guests the bank planned for filed through the venue. 

The event was in full swing when at about 6pm the skies opened up and a torrential downpour ensued. Luckily some of the guests had already moved through, and a large tent from Aredale Tent N Table sheltered many more. But as the rain came down steadily, many streamed from the event to their cars in the face of the storm's strength. 

First Bank Hampton employees and the remaining guests were undeterred however, and Rae’s kept serving up ice cream as the band huddled under a blue canopy, resigned to a short set. Guests and employees sought shelter and rode it out until the end though, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves, despite the soaking. 

The founding of First Bank Hampton dates back to November of 1933 when a group of Hampton businessmen obtained a National Charter and named Dana Bramwell as the first president of the then newly organized First National Bank of Hampton.

On January 1, 1970, the bank was purchased by the A.M. Saylor family whose ownership continues. The current location at 211 1st Ave NW dates to 1974 when a new building was constructed at the corner of First Street and Second Avenue NW, Hampton that featured two drive-through lanes and a walk-up window for expanded hours of operations.

On June 24th 2013 the bank filed Articles of Conversion with the Iowa Secretary of State, converted from a federal to a state bank, and formally renamed itself First Bank Hampton.

David Heuberger, now CEO, was elected President and Chief Executive Officer in 2003, with Roger V. Doughan remaining as Chairman. Tyler Heeren took on the President’s role in 2013, with then President David Heuberger remaining as CEO. Current Directors listed for the bank are David Heuberger, Nancy Boyington, Ronald Schermer and David Dennis.
