The Hampton Fire Department last Tuesday battled flames at a former church in the city.
Hampton Fire Chief Kent Wilkinson said at 1:24 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, the department received the call of a fire at the former Faith Baptist Church on Highway 3.
“There was mainly just smoke coming out,” Wilkinson said of what crews found when they arrived on scene. “Those bottom windows were boarded up and there were flames in the corner.”
He said firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and the majority of the time spent on location was working to remove floor joists to make sure no flames had gotten into the floor.
