CAL senior Trevor Lawson became one of CAL High School’s final graduates on Sunday, a thought that was difficult for him to comprehend.
“It’s something that hasn’t really set in yet,” said Lawson, who will participate in North Iowa Area Community College’s tool and dye program in the fall. “It’s bittersweet. Everybody here is just kind of like a big family.”
CAL celebrated its 55th and final commencement ceremony Sunday. Students heard from teachers and reflected on memories made as classmates. Beginning this fall, CAL seventh and eighth graders and high school students will attend classes at Hampton-Dumont as part of a whole grade sharing agreement between the two schools.
Speaking to her classmates and those gathered at the CAL gymnasium Sunday, class president Madilyn Vanness said CAL is more than just classrooms and hallways.
“CAL has not only been a school for me, but a family and a home,” she said. “This year has been tough knowing this year is the last.”
