February makes grand entrance with blizzard last week

     Mother Nature wreaked havoc on north central Iowa Feb. 2-3 when blizzard-like conditions closed schools, caused travel delays and rendered local roads almost impassable.
     Upwards of a foot of heavy snow fell on Franklin County throughout the day on Feb. 2. Blustery winds compounded problems, with poor conditions extending into the following day. Multiple schools were forced to shut down for two days as local crews worked to clear roads of snow and slush.
     In Hampton, Public Works Director Doug Tarr said workers spent two and a half days clearing streets and alleyways.
     “This storm was probably the worst one so far this winter,” he said. “Anytime we get the wind blowing, it definitely makes it a lot harder for us.”
