FCDA continues legacy of attracting new business to county

     Since its humble beginnings back in 1966, Franklin County Development Association (FCDA) has grown to become the driving force behind nearly every large-scale business project in the county.
     “Economic development is a give and take process that doesn’t happen over night,” said Karen Mitchell, FCDA director. “It just boils down to finding that needle in the haystack.”
     Mitchell would know. She’s helped steer numerous projects of varying size at FCDA during her 11-year tenure. From manufacturing companies to small mom and pop operations, FCDA’s reach runs the gambit when it comes to economic development in Franklin County.
     According to Mitchell’s records, the organization got its start 50 years ago operating as the Hampton Development Corporation. A group of local businessmen joined forces to steer the new agency in hopes of stimulating economic development around Hampton. Their first major move was to purchase land near the airport, which would later become the Hampton Industrial Park and play a key role in future FCDA activities.               Read the full article in the May 4 edition of the Hampton Chronicle.
