Fair Week a rousing success

Editoral
Another year, another fair season in the books.
This year’s Franklin County Fair was definitely not without its hang-ups as an earlier winter storm lead to the demolition of the show arena and rain in the middle of the week caused muddy parking throughout the grounds and even cancelled part of the grandstand event Thursday night.
However, the Franklin County Fair Board, fair employees and volunteers showed tremendous resilient and quick thinking adapting to the changes presented by weather and other conditions. It’s because of this leadership and dedication that the Franklin County Fair has earned a reputation as one of the best county fairs in the area.
Throughout the week, despite the rain and cool weather that eventually gave way to a picture-perfect weekend, the fairgrounds were alive with guests from near and far. Each grandstand event drew hundreds of spectators, with some pushing the two and three thousand mark. Outside of the grandstand, hundreds more wandered throughout the exhibits and took in the sights and sounds at Pleasant Hill.
The variety of the shows and entertainment and the enthusiasm in which they were received is a testament to the leadership at the fairgrounds. In turn, their efforts to present guests with top level entertainment has resulted in support, as the capital campaign to renovate the convention center has collected $340,000.
We appreciate seeing that the public believes in the fair’s efforts enough to pledge its time and resources to make sure the fair not only continues to happen, but can grow and build on its already stellar reputation.
Congratulations on another successful year.
