Erickson retires after 51 years with CFD

The Coulter Fire Department’s oldest active member has called it quits following five decades of service to the community.
     Larry Erickson, 72, recently wrapped up his extended career by stepping down as the department’s chief. He held the position since 1980, but felt it was the right time.
     “It’s been something else,” he said. “I really enjoyed the people. We’ve had some great groups of guys.”
     Erickson, joined the fire department in 1964 thanks to a little encouragement from his father-in-law. Back then, equipment was lacking and firefighting methods were crude, making large infernos difficult to maintain.
