CLEAR LAKE — Two straight years ended in injury frustrations for Hampton-Dumont’s Wyatt Folkerts.
The senior 220-pounder finally put all of that behind him by punching his ticket to the Class 2A state wrestling tournament with a district runner-up finish.
Folkerts stunned No. 10-ranked Clayton McFarland of Southeast Valley, who came into the tournament at 44-2, by pinning him in the second period of the district semifinal on Saturday, Feb. 9.
“It just feels fantastic,” Folkerts said. “I mean…I was injured the last two years and it killed me a little bit on the inside just watching (from the bench), but being able to finish, and on top of that, being able to qualify (for state) is the best thing ever.”
The full story appears in the Feb. 13 print and online editions of the Hampton Chronicle.
