The Dumont Main Street gar-den is even more welcoming this fall with the addition of a gazebo, thanks to the efforts of Triston Ufford, a Hampton-Dumont senior working on earning his Eagle Scout badge.
“I love it. It’s awesome,” said city clerk Rhonda Schmitt. “He’s an awesome kid, and he did a good job.”
Ufford opted for an octag-onal design. Building the gaze-bo was a slow process, but everything eventually came together.
“It took a good two or three weeks to build,” Ufford said. “There’s not a single 90-degree cut on there.”
Harken Lumber, Johnson Tiling, Ayers Lime and Rock, DeWayne and Carole Viet, Dean and Beulah Ufford and Doug and Robyn Pralle donat-ed funding and materials for the project. And family and friends helped with construc-tion and transported it to the Main Street garden. All that’s left to do now is to stain the wood as protection against weather.
