Long-time barber Bob Meyer will be the man of hour Saturday afternoon when he leads the annual Sandbaggin' Days parade through Dumont as Grand Marshal.

"It's a big honor," said Meyer, owner of Bob's Barber Shop in downtown Dumont.

Meyer was selected to lead the parade following a recent vote held throughout the city. Patrons at local businesses voted for the person they felt would be the best candidate for Grand Marshal this year, which turned out to be Meyer.

"I guess I didn't even know I was being selected," he said.

The news was a surprise for Meyer, but it probably wasn’t much of a shock to the many Dumont residents who've come to know him during the past 50 years. Meyer, a Hampton native, has stayed busy on the local scene since he moved to Dumont in 1964 to open up his barbershop.
