HAMPTON – After Hampton-Dumont No. 3 singles player Jadin Beyer dropped a one-hour, 20-minute tiebreak match against Emma Spieker, pulling the Bulldogs into a tie with South Hardin at 3-all, H-D knew it had to win two of three doubles matches to earn the win.
It all came down to the last teams playing, another tiebreak for the No. 1 doubles team of Triston Rew and Erin Plagge.
A back-and-forth affair, in which the Bulldog duo led 3-2, fell back 4-3, tied it up on a break of the South Hardin serve and went ahead again at 5-4. Rew and Plagge then lost the next two to fall back to 6-5. Later, they led 40-15 on serve only to lose and fall behind 8-7.
Facing the match trailing 9-8, second-year coach Derrick Turner told the two during the break, ‘you have to have it.’
