The Franklin County Board of Supervisors chose the candidate to fill the late Sheriff Linn Larson’s position at their regular weekly assembly Monday, Jun 18.
Three individuals from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department applied to fill the position, including former contender Deputy Rick Rieken, Deputy Aaron Dodd, and acting sheriff and Chief Deputy Stephen Bardole.
Each supervisor vocalized their preferred candidate, and Deputy Aaron Dodd was unanimously appointed as the new sheriff of Franklin County.
The BOS chambers became an emotional space as some community members in attendance tearfully excused themselves.
“I gained a lot of respect for the applicants [through the interviews],” said Supervisor Michael Nolte.
Dodd also works for the Drug Task Force in Mason City. He is a graduate of the AGWSR school district and has been working in Franklin County law enforcement since 2003. Dodd’s responsibilities as Sheriff will begin immediately, as he informally swore into the position Monday and formally will Wednesday, Jun 20.
