Delores Koenen, 82
Delores Koenen, 82, of Hampton, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. A private family burial will held at the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Sheffield. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton.
Delores Pearl Koenen was born on December 20, 1941 in Dumont, Iowa to Dietrich and Lillian (Janssen) Diekman. She attended Hampton community schools and eventually attained her GED. On December 27, 1959, Delores was united in marriage to Alvin Koenen in the Hampton United Methodist Church. Delores and Alvin owned and operated the Latimer Café for a couple of years until Delores was hired as a cook at Hampton Southside Elementary. She then became the district food service manager until she retired. She was involved with Mother’s Club and enjoyed reading, flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed collecting gnomes.
Delores is survived by her husband Alvin of Hampton, son Timothy of Des Moines, daughter Julie (Gary) of Bristow, grandchildren Nicole (Josh) Wilson of Waukee and Jacob (Adrii) Schwebke of Hampton and great-grandchildren Quinn Wilson, Jordyn Wilson, Bentley Schwebke and Raylynn Schwebke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Doug Diekman and sister Darlene Stilson.
