Cynthia Ann Plagge

Latimer

Cynthia (Cindy) Plagge, 68, of rural Latimer, passed away Friday, October 21, 2022 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Latimer. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the church in Latimer. Burial will be at Marion Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers her family requests memorials in her memory to Care Initiatives Hospice, Cedar Falls or Rock Steady Boxing, Mason City.

Cindy Plagge was born September 26, 1954, a daughter of Floyd and Lola (Boone) Christiansen of Coulter. She graduated from CAL Community School with the class of 1973 and attended NIACC, studying accounting. She then worked as accountant for Budget Building Center in Mason City.

On February 14, 1981 Cindy was united in marriage with Roy Plagge at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter. They made their home on the Plagge family farm outside of Latimer and raised their children there. She worked for Building Centers for several years before choosing to come home to the farm to give her time to her children and family.

During these years she served as Church Secretary for Immanuel UCC, worked extensively with the youth ministry and VBS, and oversaw the kitchen committee. She was a devoted mother, always involved in her children’s activities; being class mother on school trips, working with the booster clubs, attending sporting events and helping to lead their 4-H groups. She loved to run for fitness and would run 2 miles before Roy awoke each day. She competed in the Iowa Games and in recent years was active with Rock Steady Boxing, a program that empower people with Parkinson’s disease to “fight back.” Those in the boxing community knew her as "Striker!" She was a loyal Iowa State and Minnesota Twins fan and loved watching baseball games. She will always be remembered as a good cook, especially remembered for her scotcheroos. Having a good witty sense of humor, with the best one-liners. Being a fiercely loving mother and grandmother. Her children and 7 grandchildren brought her lots of joy and pride.

Cherishing her memory are her husband of 41 years: Roy; son: Ian (Valerie) Plagge, Latimer; daughter Whitney (Jason) Ceretti, Ankeny; seven grandchildren: Klayton, Audrey, Lauren, Reagan, Abby, Neely and Grayson.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, brother Roger Gertsen and brother Danny Lee Gertsen in infancy.
