Iowa law enforcement officials are mourning the deaths of two police officers killed Saturday morning in a head-on collision near Des Moines.
One of the officers, Carlos Puente-Morales, was a member of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office from 2003 to 2011. Current Franklin County Deputy Adam Blau, who helped train Puente-Morales, said he was a dedicated officer who took his job very seriously.
“He was always first to the call and willing to work extra hours or pick up an extra shift,” Blau said. “He was very driven to the job.”
Puente-Morales, 34, started as a part-time Franklin County deputy in 2003. He was later hired full-time in 2008 and served three years until his departure for the Ottumwa Police Department.
