Local dads were surprised with a one-of-a-kind Father’s Day gift on Sunday.
Nearly 50 children and moms from Latimer and Hampton gathered at La Luz Hispana last Wednesday afternoon to create candy bouquets for the special dad in their lives. Michelle Sackville, owner of Sandee’s Flower House, taught guests how to make the candy bouquets that she sells in her shop.
The room overflowed with 23 families working on the gifts. They filled mugs with candies and nuts and pinned fun-size candy bars onto a foam sphere, which was placed on top of the mug to create the bouquet. Children then decorated the gifts with ribbon.
This was the first year that La Luz Hispana hosted a Father’s Day craft class, and program director Sister Carmen Hernandez was surprised and pleased with the turnout.
