CLARION – The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL varsity football team posted four scores in the first half, then rode that all the way for a convincing 34-8 win over the Eagle Grove Eagles last Friday in the home and season opener at Clarion.
The new integration of the CAL players onto the C-G-D team seemed to work quite well, as was quickly evident by quarterback Kainan Braun of the Cadets rumbling 57 yards for the first score of the season at the 10 minute, 53-second mark of the opening quarter. A two-point conversion run by Zach Pogge made it 8-0.
With 4:16 remaining in the first period, Pogge then carried the mail from five yards out for the score. Another two-pointer by Pogge made it 16-0. With 6:24 to go in the first half, Pogge took off on another five-yard dash to pay dirt. This time, the Cowboys went to the air as Braun found Reymundo Vasquez for the two-point conversion pass.
