The Hampton-Dumont and West Fork School Districts are anxiously awaiting Relay For Life’s annual Coaches vs. Cancer day of basketball, which will be held on Saturday, Jan 20.
The day will be brimming with activities, including the games, a silent auction and the raffle to raise money in the fight against cancer.
The action commences at 11 a.m., with the freshman boys and girls games, followed by JV girls at 12:15 p.m., and JV boys at 1:30 p.m. The varsity girls will play at 3 p.m., with the varsity boys to follow.
In between the girls and boys varsity games, the annual bucket run will take place. The run commemorates the number of people in Iowa that are diagnosed with cancer every day. In past years, as much as $1,600 has been raised during the 46 second run, according to Heather Holm, Coaches vs. Cancer chair.
“The 46 seconds represents the number of people who are diagnosed with cancer every day in the state of Iowa, and that number is going down,” said Holm.
