Council sets parameters for fireworks sales

The Hampton City Council on Thursday amended the city ordinance to regulate the sales of fireworks in Hampton.
As approved, the ordinance now states that retailers can sell in zoning districts classified as Arterial Transitional (AT). Hampton City Manager Ron Dunt said this is the only location fireworks may be sold. He said AT zones are mainly on the Highway 3 and Highway 65 corridors.
Dunt said the council elected to limit the sale to AT areas for safety concerns, as it keeps sales away from residential zones.
