Cougars tame Bears in regional semi

ACKLEY – The rigors of an intense softball schedule show no mercy on any team in Iowa from classes 1A to 5A, and AGWSR has seen those hard times first-hand.
The 1A No. 8 Cougars are still playing sound softball into July, though, and are on the doorstep of their fourth state tournament berth in the last five seasons after a convincing 10-1 regional semifinal victory over BGM in Ackley Friday night.
Taryan Barrick struck out 11 with no walks, allowing one unearned run on three hits in the complete game pitching victory. She got plenty of run support, including two home runs and five total runs batted in by freshman third baseman Rachel Sicard.
