The dream to bring a splash pad to Latimer has taken the first physical step to becoming a reality.
On May 21, construction began on the splash pad at West Park just a little more than a year after fundraising started. The splash pad will include several water features that will keep kids cool during the summer months.
Cathy Carlson, a member of the splash pad fundraising committee who initially pitched the idea to the Latimer City Council in January of last year, said the late winter delayed construction on the splash pad. However, now that ground has been broken and the project has begun to take shape, the excitement couldn’t be more real.
“It gives the community a feeling of pride that even though we’re small, we can continue to grow and make ourselves attractive so families will move in and even maybe industries will look at our parks and want to build here,” she said.
