Congratulations, Latimer

Editorial: Friday night’s grand opening of the Latimer Splash Pad showed what a collective of passionate hearts is capable of.
In just 16 months, the splash pad went from an idea pitched at a city council meeting to a reality. The grand opening brought a large crowd of families and their children, but leaders from community organizations and even state government also made the trip to Latimer to witness the occasion.
Temperatures climbed into the upper 90s Friday night but the heat did nothing to dampen the mood. If anything, it only added to the atmosphere as both kids and adults took the chance to get a little wet.
The enthusiasm of everyone gathered at West Park Friday night was infectious and it showed that Latimer is a town that cares not just about its current children, but its future generations as well.
But an event such as Friday’s doesn’t happen without dedication, care and teamwork. To bring the splash pad to Latimer took efforts from Cub Cadet Daycare, the City of Latimer, the CAL Education Foundation, the Latimer Parks Society and a throng of individuals and organizations that contributed with donations or other resources. The splash pad is a shining example of the possibilities of what happens when groups come together for a common, positive cause.
Many at the grand opening made a reference to the splash pad being a dream come true. The dream is very real and now it is time to celebrate.
