City begins early discus-sions on recreation complex

The Hampton City Council has entered early discussions to bring a recreation complex to the city.
At last Monday’s workshop meeting, City Manager Ron Dunt informed the council and a room full of interested members of the public that the city recently received an offer from the Center One Foundation to donate a 29-acre plot of land near the old Maytag facility for the purpose of a complex.
In his presentation, Dunt explained that the city’s current parks are lacking necessary amenities, such as adequate parking, and some are prone to flooding. He continued that a community visioning and feasibility study conducted in 2016 suggested the city add more recreational activities for the youth.
Dunt said that the land donation would be a perfect opportunity to enter discussions about what a complex might look like. He said the city has not yet come up with a design or even a cost estimate but wanted to allow youth sports commission, other recreational groups and the public the opportunity to voice their wishes as to what the complex would contain.
