Summer is here – get out and enjoy Franklin County!

With the Memorial Day weekend behind us, we can now shift our sights to the unofficial start of the summer season. Things are green again, farmers are finishing up in the fields, and temperatures are starting to stay consistently warm. Early summertime in Iowa certainly isn’t a bad place to be.

Franklin County has a lot offer both guests and residents alike during the next three months. From music to town festivals to the county fair, there’s sure to be something going on no matter the week this summer.

One of the more symbolic events marking the start to the season is Tuesday on the Town in downtown Hampton. The local staple boasts music, food and other events in beautiful Band Shell Park every Tuesday evening throughout June. Each Tuesday on the Town showcases one Nashville recording artist for an hour-long performance underneath Hampton’s historic band shell. The world famous Hampton Municipal Band takes center stage afterwards for a performance that’s sure to please guests of all ages.

Of course, that’s just the beginning. The Franklin County Fair provides a mid-summer break for area residents with its music, shows and other attractions. Two concerts, various races featuring vehicles of all kinds, and the ever-popular rodeo highlight the 2014 lineup. Good food and animals are all added bonuses at the fair, as are the many rides and historic exhibits. It’s certainly an event to look forward to.

If that’s not enough for you, various town celebrations throughout Franklin County fill weekend schedules during the entire summer. Each offers its own unique opportunities for fun no matter the size or city. It’s always great to catch a parade and admire all interesting floats and cool cars, and it’s equally fun watching all the youngsters dart about for candy. In Hampton, Summerfest is poised to be another fun-fill weekend in 2014. The event will be jam-packed with music at Band Shell Park in addition to other crowd-pleasing favorites.

Those are just a few of the many events planned here in Franklin County this summer. If crowded celebrations aren’t your cup of tea, there’s plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs in the Great Outdoors. Our county has plenty of parks and recreational areas available at our disposal like Beeds Lake, the Rolling Prairie Trail and Maynes Grove in addition to all the others. You can never be too busy to head out to a park for some fresh air or escape the office on a beautiful day to do some fishing.

As you can probably tell, there’s no reason to stay cooped up inside the house during the next three months. Get out and enjoy Franklin County and all its communities during the summer. If these events are mere appetizers for you, many other regional celebrations only add to the many options available for a fun-filled weekend in north central Iowa.

Get out and enjoy this weather while you can – before we know it, we’ll be griping about how hot and muggy it is. Have a great summer!
