Christensen Jewelery owner Russ Gibson’s passion for entrepreneurship and small town business has earned him recognition as one of the area’s top entrepreneurs.

The North Iowa Area Community College John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and the North Iowa Area SBDC named Gibson their Entrepreneur of the Month for March 2019.

Gibson purchased Christensen Jewelry in 1988 and previously owned a jewelry store in Clear Lake for 12 years prior to consolidating his stores to the Hampton location.

His ventures in entrepreneurship, however, can be traced back far before his career as a jeweler. He started his own cleaning business when he was 13 years of age and learned about designing and fabricating jewelry as a sophomore in high school. He opened his first business – a watch repair shop - when he was just 22 years old.

Gibson said his love of business and entrepreneurship can be traced back to conversations with his parents at the dinner table. Their careers as businesspeople, he said, inspired him to pursue businesses of his own.
