Carriger brings spirit as H-D male cheerleader

HAMPTON – Male cheerleading is predominantly a college sport.

But Hampton-Dumont has a male on the football cheerleading squad for the first time in several years in Cal Carriger and it has attracted notice.

“I can’t remember the last time we’ve had a male cheerleader,” Hampton-Dumont principal Steve Madson said. “I’ve been told we have but it was before we got here.”

It is part of a trend that the Bulldogs have been leaning toward in the last few years. And it has drawn the support of those who have gone before him.

“I just always wanted to do it,” Carriger said of why he decided to go out for cheerleading....
