CAL election results questioned

It appears there will be a vote recount for a close school board race in the CAL Community School District.
County Auditor Michelle Giddings will ask the board of supervisors Friday to approve a recount request of all ballots cast for the CAL At-Large board seat. According to Giddings, she’s been approached by citizens concerned about the final tally from the Sept. 8 election, which had candidate Tracy Quinones winning by four votes against write-in candidate Cathy Carlson.
“We’re just doing this to calm some minds a bit,” Giddings said. “We just want to make sure the results are correct. Who knows, maybe we could find something.”
According to original election results, Quinones received 13 votes in the Alexander precinct and 17 in the Latimer precinct for a total of 30 votes. Conversely, Carlson received six votes in the Alexander precinct and 20 in Latimer for a total of 26. There were six scattered write-in ballots, all of which were in the Latimer precinct.
If the supervisors approve Giddings’ request at tomorrow’s meeting, the recount will be held on Monday morning.
