The final bell at CAL Community School doesn’t mean the learning ends for the day.
This year, students in the district have the opportunity to participate in eight afterschool programs that challenge them in a variety of activities. The group activities change every four weeks. The first rotation includes ukulele lessons, a walking club, sewing club, board games, gardening and recycling, study buddies, yoga and LEGO building.
Steve Lane, CAL administrator, said the idea to offer the afterschool program came as a way for students to spend time while waiting for the bus. School dismisses at 3 p.m. but buses coming from Hampton don’t arrive until at least 3:20, if not later.
