Bulldogs Golfers Look to Finish Year Strong

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL golfers have been battling mother nature all spring, but when they have been able to play they have had success on the course. The girls have shown consistent growth throughout the season and this past week competed in the North Central Conference golf meet at the Mason City Country Club. The Bulldogs headed into the conference meet with junior Madision Lindaman having the best average on the team at 58 for a 9 hole average. Fellow junior Trinity Swart is second with a 59 for her 9 hole average. Kenzie Moorehead and Katie Sosa both shot in the 60’s for the Bulldogs. At the conference meet Madison Lindaman would earn herself a top 8 finish by shooting a 96. Her round would place her 8th individually in the conference. Swart would shoot a 108, Moorehead a 118, and Rayne Wagner would shoot a 127. The Bulldogs would finish 6th as a team. They will take the course again for regionals at Pin Oak Golf Course in Manchester on Wednesday with a 10:00 am tee time.
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys golfers have been golfing well all season. Senior Tommy Birdsell has been leading the team with the best 9 hole average this year at 43.65, while junior Tucker Heeren has the best 18 hole average at 84.25. The Bulldogs have five golfers with a combined average under 50 and three golfers at or under 45. The Bulldogs took runner-up as a team in the North Central Conference golf meet. Individually the Bulldogs would end up with Tommy Birdsell as the conference runner-up and Tucker Heeren would take 7th. The Bulldog golfers would carry that momentum over to their sectional meet in Carroll. The boys would finish runner-up again and qualify as a team for districts. Heeren would lead the Bulldogs and finish as the runner-up shooting a 77. Birdsell would shoot a 79 and tie for 6th individually. Cole Rodemeyer would finish 14th overall shooting an 83. Michael Showalter would shoot an 88, finishing tied for 20th. Carter Heilskov and Will Sackville would tie for 25th by shooting a 92. The Bulldogs will now travel as a team to Orange City for districts on Monday and a chance to make the state golf tournament.
