Hampton-Dumont-CAL cross country teams completed another season with a full boys team and only five girls on the roster.

Coach Traci Moorehead felt her runners all competed well individually.

The boys team showed well in meets throughout the season.

“We were able to compete individually as well as in the top 1/2 of most meets with a successful team score,” Moorehead said.

The girls team had enough runners to score as a team, but that left little room for error or any missing runners.

The boys and girls worked hard regardless.

“Our strong point is how hard our runners practice day-in and day-out,” Moorhead said. “They workout and push themselves every practice.”

Lydia Maas was the standout of the season as she qualified the Class 3A State.

“Lydia works hard in the off season and has success,” Moorehead said. “I hope other runners will follow In Her foot steps and stay active.”

The team will lose seven seniors and bring back eight seniors.

The returning boys will be Isaac Vosburg, Miles Rust, Peyton Kofoot and Marshal Rust. The returning girls will be Lydia Maas, Teaghan Bird, Anne Henrichs and Lil Hambly.

“The fun part about xc is that we can focus individually on their 5k time and work to improve on that,” Moorhead said. “If student athletes put in the time and work hard their time will have a decreasing trend and it’s so motivating.”
