Bulldog Softball Postseason Run Ends on Road

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldog softball team hosted a first round playoff game for the second year in a row. The Bulldogs entered the game with a 7-16 record and faced the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals with a 6-17 record. The Bulldogs would earn the 4th seed in the class 3A regional 5 bracket.
The Bulldogs wasted no time in jumping on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, scoring 2. Sophomore, Malie Ott took the mound for the Bulldogs and shut down the Cardinal offense with some help from her defense behind her. In the fourth inning the Cardinals finally pushed a run across the plate, which would lead to a few more giving them a 3-2 lead. The Bulldogs answered back in the bottom of the 4th though, scoring a run of their own to tie the game. The Bulldogs would then retake the lead in the bottom of the 6th by scoring 2 runs. Those runs would seal the deal for the Bulldogs and earn them a 5-3 win and thereby a trip to Williamsburg to take on the top seeded Raiders. Ott pitched all 7 innings for the Bulldogs, striking out five Cardinal hitters. Charlee Morton drove in 2 runs for the Bulldogs on an RBI double and Ott led the Bulldogs at the plate going 2 for 3.
The Bulldogs next traveled to Williamsburg on Saturday night to take on the Raiders with a record of 31-9. The Raiders jumped on the Bulldogs right away scoring 2 runs in the first and 6 runs in the second. The Raiders added 2 more in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead, ending the Bulldogs season. Coach Enslin shared with the girls how proud he was of their growth throughout the season and how they competed well game in and game out through the season.
