The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team is a young team that has been growing and learning all season.  As the calendar turns over and a new year begins, the high school basketball season also begins to heat up.  The Bulldog girls must continue to grow up quickly to be competitive in the NCC.  Accordingly, Coach Stafford will look to the few upperclassmen and the sophomore class to lead the team the rest of the season.

The H-D-CAL Bulldogs opened up the season with the tall task of traveling to Osage to take on the 9th ranked Green Devils, starting the game in a defensive battle with the Green Devils and trailing after the first quarter 6-3.  The Green Devils would continue to find their rhythm in the second quarter as well, and unfortunately carry that throughout the rest of the game.  The 9th ranked Green Devils would eventually prevail over the Bulldogs 64-20.  Jordan Valley led the Bulldogs with 7 points and Brooklyn Valley would add 6 points to the total.  Charlee Morton booked 2 points and 5 rebounds with the loss dropping the Bulldogs record to 1-7.

Friday saw the Bulldogs continue their mini-road trip, traveling on Highway 3 to Clarion to take on the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls.  The Bulldogs and the Cowgirls battled throughout the first half of the game with the Cowgirls gaining the upper hand and heading into the locker room with a 23-17 lead.  The Bulldog shooting went cold though and the Cowgirls handled the Bulldogs pressure, opening up in the second half, and thereby earning a 48-27 victory over the Bulldogs.  Jordan Valley would again lead the Bulldogs in points with 14 and 2 assists and Brooklyn Valley would add 12 more points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals.  The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 1-8 and 1-3 in the NCC.

Saturday dawned with the H-D-CAL girls basketball team giving back to the youth of the community by volunteering and coaching at the Hampton Youth Basketball clinic Saturday morning.  The Bulldog girls return to action with a pair of NCC home games, Monday against the Humboldt Wildcats and Friday against the St. Edmond Gaels.
