DES MOINES -- Hampton-Dumont senior wrestlers Dalton Chipp (195) and Wyatt Folkerts (220) came back from early takedowns to win by fall in the third period on Thursday, Feb. 14 in their opening matches.
Chipp was initially taken down by Mid-Prairie's Isaac Boucher before turning it on and building a 6-2 lead and then pinning Boucher in 4 minutes, 17 seconds.
Folkerts gave up a five-point move against Carter Reicks of NH/TV, but quickly rallied. He was down 5-4 going into the third period where he took advantage of bad position by Reicks to pin him in 5:25.
Between the two, the Bulldogs scored eight points, which is tied for 19th with four other schools after the consolation round was completed.
Friday morning, Chipp faces West Delaware's Jordan Bries in the quarterfinal. Folkerts must go against top-seeded Cody Fisher of Woodward-Granger, who is ranked No. 1 by the Predicament.
In Class 1A, AGWSR's Trey Lashbrook won in sudden victory-1 with a takedown 21 seconds in. Lashbrook's next opponent Friday is Denver's Jacob Moore, who he had to beat in order to win the district title. Lashbook is 1-2 against Moore.
