HAMPTON – Andy Bruemmer submitted his resignation as the head coach of the Bulldogs in mid-December and it was recently approved by the Hampton-Dumont school board.
When reached for comment, Bruemmer, who guided the Bulldogs for the past two seasons, said it was just something he decided to do.
“Different things,” Bruemmer said for his reason to leave the team. “I thought it best for the program. The kids were great and they will be fine – great.”
At the meeting, Bruemmer was given the option to continue as a teacher at the school. He said that he’d finish out the school year and look into other options.
“I hope so,” Bruemmer said. “I’m still young, I love the game, I’m working to see where the future holds.”
When Bruemmer arrived, he was eager to get started and said that he had originally applied at Hampton-Dumont when Jerry Shafrath was initially hired to coach at the school and continued to do so until his retirement after 27 years in 2015.
He continued to say that he planned to coach in the future. A coaching legacy, Bruemmer’s father coached at Luther College for 23 years.
Bruemmer finished with a 4-13 record in his two seasons with the Bulldogs, improving to 3-5 in 2020 after going 1-8 in his first season with the team, including the Bulldogs’ first win against Clear Lake at the Lions’ Den in 30 years.
“I just decided it was best to look at other options,” Bruemmer said.
