The Iowa DOT held a public information meeting in Dumont on Sept. 6 to discuss a proposed bridge replacement on Iowa Highway 3 in Butler County, just east of Dumont.
According to Field Services Coordinator Pete Hjelmstad, work is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2020 and should be completed by late October 2020.
“The new bridge will be about 4.5 feet higher to accommodate a 50-year flood. Right now, the bridge is rated for a 15-year flood. This will raise the gauge by 4.5 feet and keep water from going over the road,” Hjelmstad said. “Every bridge is inspected every two years. This bridge needed widening to accommodate current design standards.”
