Through perseverance and hard work the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldog boys soccer team has come to find themselves a top 12 team in the state of Iowa in class 2A.  The boys have been impressive in their wins this season and faced a true test of their grit this last week.  This past week the H-D-CAL girls soccer team looked to continue to build off an early season win.

The week for the girls began with a home game against the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals on Monday April 10th.  The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead but unfortunately the Bulldogs would not be able to mount a rally, and ended up losing the game 9-0.  Thursday night the Bulldogs hosted the Webster City Lynx in an NCC game.  The Bulldogs did manage to get a goal, but lost the game 11-1.  Resultantly, the Bulldogs girls soccer team dropped to 1-4 on the season.

On soccer action the Bulldog boys headed to Garner to take on the GHV Cardinals.  This game looked to be a trap game for the Bulldogs who might have been looking ahead to a conference matchup with undefeated and 9th ranked Webster City.  The Bulldogs emerged victorious though after pulling out a 1-0 victory over the Cardinals on a goal by Bryan Vazquez Espinosa with an assist by Luis Mota.  Goalie Jose Aragon went 4-4 with saves.  That victory set up a top 12 battle with the 9th ranked Webster City Lynx in a game that could decide the conference champions.  The Lynx got on the board first and took a 1-0 lead into the break, but the Bulldogs rallied back in the second with a goal of their own scored by captain Alexis Hernandez.  Regulation had the game end in a 1-1 tie.  Extra time could not muster a goal from either team and the game came down to penalty kicks. whereby The Lynx scored a win 2-1 and earned the 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs.  The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 4-1, but earned them some respect.  The Bulldogs currently sit 9th in the 2A soccer rankings.

This week the Bulldog girls soccer team is set to travel to Parkersburg for a game with AP on Monday.  Both teams then return to action Thursday and Friday for back-to-back conference games, hosting Clear Lake on Thursday and then traveling to Humboldt on Friday.
