Boys and Girls Soccer Begin Season
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldog soccer teams began its season this past week with a trip to Clear Lake and then hosting Belmond-Klemme. The H-D-CAL girls soccer team is coached by first year head coach Ben Schlachter and the boys are coached by Danielle Arana. The girls look to continue to make improvements from last season and the boys will look to continue their success with some postseason aspirations.
In the first game of the season at Clear Lake the Bulldog girls struggled to get their offense going and dropped the game to Lions by a score of 10 to 0. The Bulldogs would regroup though and prepare for the Belmond-Klemme Broncos to come to Hampton. In the next match up Junior Teaghan Bird got the ball in the net for the first goal of the game and the season for the Bulldogs. The Broncos tied up the game with time winding down, but Bird put the ball in the back of the net again, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 victory. The girls would even their record at 1-1 and they would shift their focus to the rival Iowa Falls Alden Cadets in a game on April 3rd.
The H-D-CAL boys took the field after the girls, with the soccer teams playing double headers in Clear Lake against the Lions. The Bulldogs claimed a 4-2 victory over the Lions there with 2 goals from senior forward Anthony Karanu, a goal from senior captain, mid-fielder Luis Mota, and the final goal from senior captain, forward Alexis Hernandez. Thursday the Bulldogs took on the Broncos and the boys would continue their winning momentum with a 4-0 victory over Belmond-Klemme. Sophomore Goalie Jose Aragon came away with two saves in the shutout, while fellow sophomore Fernado Mota scored his first two goals of the season. Luis Mota would add another goal to his season total and so would Alexis Hernandez. As a result the Bulldogs improved their record to 2-0 on the year heading into a rivalry game with the Iowa Falls Alden Cadets April 3.
