SHEFFIELD – A night after earning career rebound No. 500, West Fork’s Emily Caspers had another big night for West Fork in a 66-31 win over Northwood-Kensett on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The 6-foot-1 senior DMACC signee went off for 28 points and eight more rebounds, adding an assist, steal and blocked shot as the Warhawks improved to 6-8 overall, 6-4 in the Top of Iowa East Conference.

“She’s playing with a lot of confidence,” West Fork coach Rodney Huber said. “The girls are really looking for her. Last night, did a good job of getting up and down the floor, getting her the ball. She’s doing a good job of getting after rebounds, something earlier in the year, that part of her game she wasn’t really concentrating on as much. The last four games, she’s really stepped up on the intensity.”

If Huber were nitpicking, the only down side to the Warhawks’ play against the Vikings was the foul trouble they were in early in the first half. N-K got into the bonus in the first quarter and then reached the double bonus with more than four minutes until halftime.

The Vikings were 3-of-7 from the free throw line in the first half.

“They were calling it tight. I thought we adjusted a little bit better in the second quarter. Obviously, in the second half we did a much better job. Things to learn from. We’ll talk about that in practice, but young team, their aggressiveness, you take the good with the bad sometimes."

The win makes it three in a row for the Warhawks, their longest streak they’ve put together so far this season.

“Every night, we keep getting better and better,” Huber said. “The young girls played really well lately. I think we’re kind of turning the corner here the last three games and hopefully we can string together a few more good games like this.”
