Bertrand optimistic about King matchup

     An intimate audience of one greeted Republican congressional candidate Rick Bertrand last Wednesday during a campaign stop at Godfather’s Pizza in Hampton.
     The lone visitor – Vern Harper, a Democrat from Hansell – was there to decide if he’d switch parties and vote for Bertrand during the June 7 primary election. Harper doesn’t plan to stay loyal to Bertrand if he lasts until November, but he would rather see anyone on the ballot than incumbent District 4 Rep. Steve King.
     “[King] has been one of the nastiest representatives from either party in the history of the United States,” Harper told Bertrand. “He is in favor of anything that gets him re-elected right now.”
