Nearly a year of planning and training for Belmond resident Angie Flores culminated last week as she crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
Even though she ran every step of the challenging 26.2 mile course, Flores still had a hard time comprehending what she had just done when she finished with a time of three hours and 58 minutes.
“It’s like a dream,’ she said.
Flores qualified for the Boston Marathon last June, when she finished the Grandma’s Marathon in Minnesota with a time of three hours and 33 minutes.
After qualifying, Flores trained rigorously with an ultra marathon runner from Mexico. Her training had to be intense and disciplined, as the Boston course is notoriously hilly, including a six-mile stretch straight uphill.
