BBALL Friday 1/20/23 WF vs Newman

JJV/JV/V vs Hampton Dumont (Coaches vs Cancer)
Friday 1/20/23
Friday night the Warhawks Boys Basketball team welcomed Newman Catholic to Sheffield. The JV game kicked things off with a slow start from both sides. A match-up earlier in the year was decided by just 7 points, and theWarhawks worked to jump on the Kinights early. A combination of unfocused play, turnovers, and missed shots proved to be too much to walk away with the victory however, and the Warhawks were handed their first loss on the season 21-16. Coach Bohman emphasized the importance of being prepared to play and to get focused and locked in every single game. Ashyr Wiseman scored 6 points; and AJ Anderson 4 points.
In the night cap, the Warhawks squared off against Newman Catholic (11-1 overall 8-1 TIC) in a major conference battle. In the first go around, the Warhawks played well defensively but really struggled on the opposite end, finishing with just 30 points. Friday night's contest was much different. The Warhawks wanted to pull out the Newman defense, knowing they struggle to help the back side. The Warhawks were able to take advantage of their defense to a tune of 76 points while allowing just 56. A full student section, standing room only, and so much energy in the gym made an amazing atmosphere to play in. Coach Trask stated, “I’m just so proud of how these guys executed and they definitely earned this one!” Sage Suntken (POG) came away with 34 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists; Cayde Eberling (POG) with 22 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals; Edison Maske logged 6 points, 5 rebounds; followed by Gavin Cronk with 6 rebounds.
The Warhawks moved to 11-2 overall and 10-1in conference play. The Warhawks not sit alone at the top of the TIC East.
