Assessor overstepped boundaries

To the editor:
Thank you to Brian Miller for writing a letter to the editor that was published in the Wednesday, May 19, Volume 141, Issue 19 of the Hampton Chronicle.
It was brought to my attention to photograph a letter that all Franklin County property owners received from Gwana Wirtjes, Franklin County Assessor, and to photograph Brian Miller’s letter to the editor on social media – so I did.
The Franklin County Assessor has over stepped her boundaries – ignoring the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article 1, Section 8 of the Iowa Constitution. These rights prohibit the government from conducting searches of property and the importance upon being free of government intrusion.
I will not allow anyone from the Franklin County Assessor’s Office or any other representatives of Vanguard Appraisals, Inc. to set foot on my property.
I was not informed in the letter from Franklin County Assessor, Gwana Wirtjes, how much this interior/exterior inspection was costing Franklin County residents. So how much is this Vanguard Appraisal Inc. costing Franklin County residents?
Question to taxpayers: Based on our houses supposedly inflation values, the government to collect more taxes just on that purpose?
I still will not let them into my home.
Luella Rodemeyer,
Hampton
