All eyes on athletic complex discussion

Editorial: Discussions have begun regarding a new recreation complex for Hampton.
We aren’t yet sure what the new complex would contain as planning hasn’t gotten underway, but these early signs are encouraging.
At the first meeting regarding the complex, sports commissioners were vocal for the need of such a complex in the community. It’ll be interesting to see what the steering committee designs but the fact of the matter remains that we need facilities for our youth and adult leagues.
City manager Ron Dunt outlined that the facilities we do have are susceptible to flooding and lack parking and other amenities. The cost of the complex is yet to be determined and it will come with a considerable price tag. But Hamptonites should look past the price tag, as this will not only be a fantastic resource locally but will serve as an attraction for businesses and families looking to relocate. Additionally, it can help bring tournaments and other sporting events to town, which also helps economic development.
Keep an open mind as discussions progress, attend meetings and voice your concerns and questions.
