Alice Schomburg, 101

Alice Schomburg, 101, of Latimer, went to her heavenly home on May 25, 2023, after a short stay at the Franklin Country View Nursing Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Latimer. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in her memory.

Alice Caroline Schomburg was born July 31, 1921, to Henry and Emma Borcherding, the second of four children. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Coulter. She attended Hamilton Township Country School, St. Paul Lutheran School, and graduated from Latimer High School with the class of 1939.

She met her husband, Arnold at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Latimer, where they were both members. They were married September 22, 1940, and celebrated 73 years together before Arnold passed away in 2013. They lived on the family farm for almost 30 years before moving to the first of 3 houses they built in Latimer.

Alice sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of the LWML, Cemetery Society, and the Latimer Parks Society. She was very active in these local clubs and would volunteer whenever something was needed, including serving as an officer for most of these groups. She worked at the Latimer and Coulter Cafés and did cleaning jobs at the church, the Latimer Manor and had several lawn mowing jobs.

Alice is survived by daughters: Patricia Schomburg, Cedar Rapids; Pearl Erenberger, Solon; son: David (Linda); Elko New Market, MN; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 siblings and a granddaughter.

Alice will be remembered as a kind, loving, caring person who is strong in her faith and love of God – she will be missed by many.
