AGWSR’s Hames to third team IPSWA

DES MOINES — AGWSR junior guard Alyssa Hames was voted third team all-state by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association, announced early Tuesday morning.

Hames, who helped lead the Cougars to a 18-6 overall record, finishing in the regional semifinal to eventual state runner-up Algona Garrigan, averaged a team-high 14.4 points per game.

She also finished with 42 assists and 32 steals as well as 6.8 rebounds per game for coach Laurie Gann’s team.

Key wins for the Cougars, including which she was a part of was the home victory against then-ranked Clarksville and Colo-NESCO, as well as Grundy Center.

Hames is among a trio who will be returning for a strong core to the Cougars in 2020-21.

Caitlin Clark of West Des Moines Dowling was voted Miss Basketball 2020. The 5-foot-11 guard bound for Iowa averaged a state-best 33.7 points per game as a senior and score more than 2,500 points in her career. She shot 50.9 percent from the field, making 84 three-pointers.
