2 Freedom Rocks finished in Franklin County border towns

Thanks to dedicated volunteers and communitywide support, two Freedom Rocks were recently completed in Ackley and Dows.
     The finished artworks marked an end to years of planning, fundraising and patience in the two nearby towns. Ackley’s Freedom Rock was completed in mid-July prior to RAGBRAI’s visit, while Dows was finished Aug. 1. Both rocks are now on display and open for visitors.
     “We wanted to make sure we honored all generations of veterans with our rock,” said Richard Echelberger, one of the Wright County Freedom Rock’s organizers. “We still have a large contingency of Vietnam veterans in Wright County, and we wanted to honor them especially.”
