“It’s like losing a friend” Barn that survived 1960 tornado falls in high winds last week

A collapsed, tattered barn on Alicia Thomson’s property southwest of Coulter tells two stories.
The first, most obvious and recent is the effect last week’s high winds had on the area. A straight-line gust more than 50 miles an hour left part of the barn looking as if someone pushed over a house of cards. The roof and supporting beams, in Thomson’s words, resemble a compound fracture with bones pushed through skin.
“I told a friend it looks like it got in a battle with Vlad the Impaler and lost horribly,” she said.
The destruction is easy to take at its surface – the barn was old and just gave in to the elements. But what the face value doesn’t show is the second story – the history of the barn.
